Championing the UK high street with Ankorstore: rewilding retail to strengthen independent retailers

Integrated communications, thought leadership, and content marketing to grow brand awareness, category ownership, and lead generation in European retail.

The partnership

Ankorstore connects brands and creators with independent retailers across Europe, helping shops curate distinctive ranges that stand out in an increasingly homogenous marketplace. Against the backdrop of ongoing polycrises and 47 UK shops closing every day in 2022, Ankorstore set out to “Rewild Retail” by restoring the health of the retail ecosystem and championing the role of independents on the high street.

Clarity’s brief was to build a purpose-led, insight-driven platform that would make Ankorstore synonymous with defending the UK high street, while directly supporting retailers’ resilience. Strategically, this meant elevating Ankorstore from marketplace to movement leader, growing UK brand sign-ups and stock listings, increasing sales to independent retailers, and securing a clear, defensible position as the category’s most vocal advocate with policymakers, media, and consumers alike.

Systematising impact

Clarity designed a long-term, insight-led communications platform around Ankorstore’s Rewilding Retail mission, turning concern for the high street into a structured engine for awareness, engagement, and lead generation. The strategy centred on gathering critical consumer and retail trends that independents needed to survive, then packaging these insights in formats that informed retailers while mobilising public and media attention.

By partnering with “Queen of the High Street” Mary Portas and elevating GM Tarun Gidoomal as a data-backed spokesperson, Clarity built a consistent narrative that could flex with market events, from the Autumn Statement to the cost‑of‑living crisis. A sequenced drumbeat of reports, media moments, and content ensured the issue never dropped from the agenda, systematising Ankorstore’s impact rather than relying on isolated campaign spikes.
